The White House is quite an iconic building, isn’t it? The White House is where the President Of The United States resides and takes office, and in case you didn’t know, that’s quite a powerful position to be in. In-fact it’s such a powerful position to be in that it demands its secret service and why not? After all, it has to protect the most important man in the most powerful nation in the world.
So naturally, the home of the POTUS would need quite some beefing up but how much? Well, we at WittyFeed would like to uncover few of the security features of the capital’s building and perhaps debunk the myth of the bunker. So what are you waiting for? Scroll down and let the journey begin.
1. Air Defense
In theory, it seems like a child’s play to just go above the White House as an unsuspecting customer and breach the security, doesn’t it? Well, the people in charge of security had air defense in mind though.
The 15-mile radius around the White House is a no-fly zone. No plane can trespass the zone, and when they do, their indicators start flashing. In case they still don’t notice, they do light up red flares too. And yes, they do have a defense against rocket attacks too!
The White House ground is spread across acres and acres and although there isn’t anything special in using infrared on the White House ground? The sheer magnitude of them is mind blowing. They’ll automatically detect any intrusion and warn the secret service.
3. Bullet proof windows
On November 11, 2011, a person fired two shots from a high powered rifle at the window of the White House. While one went wild, the other one struck the ballistic glass. After that incident, the windows at the White House have been even more ballistically reinforced!
4. The Bunker
Over the years, the White House has seen some underground renovations, but none have been major.
It is nuclear proof
The bunker is believed to not only be nuclear proof but also six storeys deep which means that it is as deep as it is high.
5. Concrete barriers
The barriers have evolved from the wrought iron decoration to concrete, and the resistant barrier is capable of absorbing the impact of trucks ramming into it at full speed.
6. The secret service
What’s the use of being a President if you don’t have your secret service, right? Well every US president can boast of that and trust us when we say, they are quite useful!
7. The fence
Over the years, the White House fence has changed quite a bit. From a decorative iron fence, it has been changed into an impenetrable fence. It seems that over the years, the fence seems to keep getting higher and the next renovation of the fence is around the corner.
8. People screening
In case you think anyone can go inside the White House, go and hug the POTUS, you’re deluded. The POTUS invites a special few people, and even if you’re invited, there’s a lot of background checks done, and of course, all security measures are taken care of.
9. Food Protectors
There’s one way to stay millions of miles away from the POTUS and still harm him. How? One can poison his food. Easy, isn’t it? Well, not so easy. The POTUS has food tasters employed in the White House, so they’ll be checking the food before it gets to the President. Besides, the chef’s are subjected to a lot of background checks as well.
10. Drone Protection
Drones recently came into the trend, and with advances in drones, the White House is at risk of an attack led by a drone or multiple drones. In fact, in 2015 a drone landed on the lawn of the White House. Although it meant no harm, it did highlight the security loopholes at White House.
Eye for an eye
There’s no better way to protect the White House than going eye for an eye and having your drone army. Yes, the President’s secret service has an army of drones, ready to fly at any breach detected.
